Student Information System (SIS) Integration

Also known as: SIS integration, SIS sync

SIS integration synchronises learners, courses, enrolments, and grades between the LMS and the institution's student information system (the system of record for admissions, transcripts, and accreditation reporting).

A Student Information System (SIS) — Banner, PeopleSoft, Workday Student, Samarth, Edu Wave — is the source of truth for a learner's admissions record, fee status, programme enrolment, and final grades. The LMS is the source of truth for course delivery, formative assessment, and engagement data.

A robust SIS integration:

  • Provisions LMS accounts from the SIS roster nightly (or in real time via webhooks).
  • Enrols / unenrols learners as their SIS registrations change.
  • Pushes final grades from the LMS gradebook back to the SIS for transcript posting.
  • Maintains a single identifier (often the SIS's primary key) across both systems.
